Dr. Hanna sees a limited number of patients each Wednesday in Avenel, so there's time to actually listen, examine, and explain.
Dr. Hanna treats any and all respiratory concerns. A few of the things you can see him for are asthma, COPD, sleep apnea, chronic cough, shortness of breath, and much more.
If your inhaler isn't cutting it anymore, or you've been told you have COPD, Dr. Hanna can help you change your regimen to better manage your symptoms, or start you on the right path if the diagnosis is new to you!
Snoring, unexplained breathlessness, a cough that won't quit — Dr. Hanna will do a thorough work-up to figure out what's going on and what your best treatment options are.
"Via Vita" — Latin for the way, the life.
Dr. Hanna founded Via Vita Medicine to bring thoughtful pulmonary care straight to you.
You see Dr. Hanna at every visit. He already knows your history, so you're not re-explaining your case from the start each time.
New-patient forms are sent ahead of time, so the visit itself is spent on the conversation — not a clipboard.
Clinic days are set aside for a limited number of patients, so Dr. Hanna can give you his full attention.
Spirometry and breathing tests are read and discussed with you directly, right after they're done.
Dr. Bishoy Hanna is a board-certified pulmonary and critical care physician who practices in both the hospital and the outpatient setting. As an attending intensivist in a cardiothoracic ICU, he manages some of the most complex respiratory patients after cardiac surgery in the hospital. He also holds an adjunct faculty appointment at Rutgers University.
His training includes endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS) and navigational bronchoscopy — advanced procedural skills that inform how he evaluates complex pulmonary cases, even when a visit is for something more common. He founded Via Vita Medicine in May 2025 to bring that same attentiveness to outpatient care in Avenel.

Here's a list of just some of the things Dr. Hanna sees. Don't see your problem or diagnosis? Call and ask!
If your inhaler doesn't seem to work the way it used to, or your asthma flares up more than it should, this is exactly what Dr. Hanna sees patients for — including a real look at whether your current treatment still fits.
If you've been told you have COPD, or you're a smoker or former smoker who gets short of breath more than seems normal, Dr. Hanna evaluates and manages COPD directly, in office.
Heavy snoring, waking up gasping, or feeling exhausted no matter how much you sleep — these are worth a conversation, and a next step.
A cough that won't go away, or breathlessness that doesn't add up — this is where a proper evaluation starts, including looking past the lungs when that's where the answer actually is.
Spirometry and FeNO testing — the two main breathing tests — are done in office, the same day, when they're needed.
Reviewing imaging and history to support diagnosis, and monitoring disease course over time in coordination with specialized centers when needed.
Initial evaluation of suspected pulmonary hypertension, with referral to a specialized PH center for advanced testing and treatment when indicated.
Counseling and a review of pharmacologic options — nicotine replacement, medication, or a combination — tailored to what's realistic for you.
Clear, upfront guidance on coverage and what to bring to your first visit.
Via Vita Medicine is a participating Medicare provider.

We're not able to accept Medicaid at this time.
We recommend confirming your specific out-of-network benefits directly with your insurer before your visit, since every plan differs.
